Tekken 7 Official?

Series director Katsuhiro Harada has apparently given it away that the 7th game in the series is in production. He let slip, probably accidentally on purpose, that the game was in the early stages of development.

Not exactly a surprise given the fan base of Tekken.

Virgin Gaming Revealed

The official name and logo for Richard Branson’s new gaming venture has been revealed‘Virgin Gaming’.

The online-only publishing enterprise is expected to be at E3 next month with Branson himself heading over to LA to do the grand unveiling.

The last gaming venture of Virgin ended in 1999, the assets purchased by French company Titus Software and Electronic Arts. It had in its hay day published the awesome Cannon Fodder (1993), the less cool ‘The Lion King’ (1994) and Command & Conquer (1995)

It also published a load of Capcom IP in Europe, such as Resident Evil, Devil May Cry and Dino Crisis.

Very curious as to what dynamic Virgin will work with current gaming trends.

PS3 Market Show Grows To 31%

According to a new report from Strategy Analytics the PS3 could catch up to the Xbox 360 in terms of global sales with the recent growth the console has experienced. The report claims that as of Q1 2010 SONY's current console has a 31% share of the global market so far. It also predicts the number of sales of the PS3 machine to rise up to 14m units, ahead of the forecast for amount of Xbox 360 units sold. One of the principal analyst from the company, David Mercer, had this to say on the matter:
“Our analysis shows that while Wii sales fell relative to Q109, its share in fact remained constant relative to Q409. The main movement in Q1 2010 was the growing share for Sony’s PS3, at the expense of Microsoft’s Xbox 360. “The PS3 continues to benefit from the price cut last September. This should help the PS3 maintain growth momentum throughout 2010. The introduction of the Natal technology should also help re-energize Microsoft’s Xbox 360 platform in the second half of the year.”
I would definitely agree that a price cut to the PS3 helped it along the way. That and an increased library of quality and varied titles will also have helped shift units into consumers hands. After all, healthy competition is good competition and its better than one company having a monopoly on the console market. Consumers are always better of when they have choices in any entertainment medium and games are no exception.

Rumours Suggest Natal Will Be Pricey

According to recent rumours circulating the Internet the cost of Microsoft's upcoming motion-sensing control device Natal could retail at $149 (around £104 for folks in the UK). It has also been rumoured that the Xbox 360 Arcade and Natal console bundle will be released for $299 (around £206).

What the actual price of the device ends up retailing at remains to be seen however we can only hope that it comes at an affordable price for families that are still recovering from tighter financial circumstances due to the recession.

Now you can jump in and out of an already started game, making the game much more agile as well as balancing the teams depending on their XP. New Marvel Vs Capcom 3 Screenshots

New screenshots of upcoming title Marvel vs. Capcom 3 have emerged which you can check out above and show the game in its colourful and highly action-based glory.

THQ Starts Partners Program

THQ has decided to follow the success of EA's Partners program to attract new developers and publishers to their cause and launched their own THQ Partners program (original, huh?) and have appointed Tim Walsh, former executive VP of publisher relations at IGA Worldwide, to lead the new venture. Walsh stated on his contraction:
"I'm extremely pleased to join THQ and launch THQ Partners. I'm looking forward to working with a select number of world-class developers and publishers to distribute their great games through our global network."
The target will follow known premises, allowing smaller studios to benefit fully from the advantages of a big publisher behind them while remaining the IP rights for their own. Giving power to the developers is always a good sign...

Super Mario Galaxy 2 Theme Played By Live Orchestra

A video has recently been released showing an orchestra playing the main musical theme from Super Mario Galaxy 2. You can check the video out above and hopefully it will brighten up your day if the summer weather isn't doing a good enough job of that recently.

Gran Turismo 5 Will Release... 'Soon'

Or at least that's what Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president Andrew House says over the speculation that the game is a myth and will never see a release date. He also said that the game was looking amazing.

Just recently it was ticked that the last delay (of a great deal of delays...) was caused supposedly to implement 3D and Move features in the game.

Quit playing games with the users Sony, if you don't know when, just don't say naught.

Was Uncharted Planned For The PSP?

A recent observation of the profile of one of the programmers at Naughty Dog suggests that the renowned game on the PS3 could at one time have been in development for the PSP. Although it is only speculation as to what the untitled “action game” was that appears on his CV for the handheld it does make you wonder if a portable version of the action-adventure game was planned. I would say for certain that a portable version of Uncharted would be very welcome if it ever did see the light of day.

Namco-Bandai Will Distribute The Witcher 2 In Europe

Namco-Bandai has announced that they will be in charge of distributing in Europe and Asia, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. The game is being developed by CD Projekt Red, a polish developer, which already made the first game (a very good game, though it passed a bit unnoticed) and, again, it will put us in control of the witcher Geralt in the dark and twisted fantasy world related in Andrzej Sapkowski's short stories. Olivier Comte, VP Marketing, Sales & Publishing, Namco Bandai Partners, said:
“We’re very excited and proud to be adding The Witcher 2 to our line up for 2011. The team at CD Projekt RED is one of the most passionate and skilled in the world, and they are committed to delivering the best possible experience to their fans, which leads me to believe we will have an amazing game on our hands.”
Adam Kiciński, CEO of CD Projekt RED, commented:
“I’m very happy that we can put the last piece of the worldwide puzzle in place by confirming Namco Bandai as our European distribution and marketing partner. We’ve already put a lot of sweat and love into the Witcher 2, which we think and hope will be one of the best ever RPGs, and we’re looking forward to sharing more details in the coming months.”
Though details on the game splash slowly, it is set on a very promising premise, as well as being the 2nd part of an already good game. It is expected to release on Q1 2011.

Sky Player May Come To PS3 And Wii In The Future

The director of Sky's On-Demand service Griff Parry has recently revealed that Sky is in talks with the other major console manufacturers about bringing their service to the PS3 and the Wii sometime in the near future. He had this to say about the matter:
"We are looking to extend distribution of Sky Player widely via partnerships with key players in key categories. Games consoles is obviously one of those key categories, so what you would expect is probably true. We are engaged in talks to explore opportunities, but we are very happy in our relationship with Microsoft."

"We are absolutely not finished with Xbox and aim to make the experience richer and richer and continue innovating. We have a relationship with PlayStation because we launched the PSP service (GoView) so I look at consoles, and there are a lot of them, and they are obviously connected to televisions and the internet."
I would not be surprised if the Sky Player service comes to the other major machines sometime in the future as Sky, like any other business, wants to expand and increase in profits (I'd know as I work for them). As to when this will happy is still unknown but with this already being looked into and proving a success on the Xbox 360 I would expect to hear something by the end of the year at the latest.

Ex Microsoft Boss Thinks Natal Will Fail

Former Microsoft studio manager Scott Bayless has said that Natal will likely be dead on arrival if Microsoft fail to integrate it into the Xbox 360:
"When I met with Microsoft in 2008 to look at Natal I asked, 'When will you integrate this into the 360?'"

"Their response was, 'We're probably going to wait and see on that' to which I said: 'Then you're going to fail.'"
He seems sure that many will be put off with the lack of integration:
"Plays like this always fragment and the disincentive to developers is powerful. When I'm spending tens of millions on a game, the last thing I want to do is lose 90 per cent of my market."
There is speculation that Natal will retail at £100, a fairly offensive price if true considering the components are relatively inexpensive.

Two Hours Of Gaming As Bad As A Line Of Cocaine Says Newspaper

A report by the Lancashire Evening Post suggests that playing video games for two hours is equivalent to doing a line of the drug cocaine, equating both activities to varying levels of addiction. They also mention that addicted youths are seeking official medical help from doctors as a result of having said gaming addictions.

You can read the full article here but yet again we are getting articles that are either sensationalist or therapists or counsellors are trying to analyse the situation yet making ridiculous comparisons to accentuate their points. I would expect trained professionals to be (I don't know) more professional about this but there you go. Plus we know a gaming habit is cheaper to maintain anyway.

PSPGo Owners To Get 10 Free Games

Sony will soon announce their scheme which will enable PSPGo owners to get their hands on 10 free games.

That is the case according to a report by trade source MCV at least. They claim that PSPgo registrations made AFTER April 1st, 2010 will allow gamers to get 10 free game downloads. The games include Gran Turismo, LittleBigPlanet, FIFA World Cup 2010 and GTA. SCE UK sales man, Mark Howsen said of the offer:
"Next month we're launching a free ten game offer. And this isn't just older titles - we've worked with third parties and there's some really good core products.

"We're using it as a method to drive the hardware as well by making the whole proposition much more appealing."
Sweet.

Asda And Take Two Become 'Pardners' Again

Asda has confirmed that they have resolved their initial dispute with Take Two over stocking their most recently published title Red Dead Redemption. This will mean that consumers can pick the game up from Asda stores from Saturday May 29th.

I can't imagine ASDA wanting to miss out on sales of the game any longer than is necessary hence the quick resolution but it is still unknown what the cause of the dispute was in the first place. Maybe the CEO of Asda called the CEO of Take Two out for a duel at noon?

Blizzard To Focus On ‘Cool Features’ Not DRM

DRM is 'a losing battle' according to Blizzard co-founder Frank Pearce. He believes that piracy should be challenged with "cool features" which make being connected to the Internet worthwhile, beyond there being no other choice if you want to play a game. In regards to StarCraft 2 Pearce said:
"If we've done our job right people will want to be connected while they're playing the single player campaign so they can stay connected to their friends and earn the achievements."

"The best approach from our perspective is to make sure that you've got a full-featured platform that people want to play on, where their friends are, where the community is."

"We need our development teams focused on content and cool features, not anti-piracy technology."
The digital rights issue has caused a schism in the industry. Avalanche (Just Cause 2) told CVG recently that it felt Ubisoft’s approach punished legit gamers.

Whereas Namco told CVG earlier in the month that Ubisoft's DRM is the best option. But that was really only because they didn’t see another option.
