Sega Elaborates Further On Yakuza 3 Missing Content

Sega has kindly elaborated on earlier comments made about missing parts of the Western version of Yakuza 3:
Ultimately, the choice that had to be made was either no Yakuza 3 in the west, or a version of the game that was almost exactly the same, but with a little less trivia. That said, our teams also understand that many of you guys love games like Yakuza because of that experience, and rest assured that we’ll continue fighting on your behalf to make sure that going forward, we can provide as close to the full experience as possible – no matter how foreign.

Even so, Yakuza 3 is still a game packed to the brim with things to do, places to see, and people to fight – offering a massive amount of options for fans of the series and new players alike. In addition, the western versions of the game will come pre-packaged with codes for the DLC, already localized and ready to be enjoyed. With gameplay that you truly won’t find anywhere else, we think that Yakuza 3 is genuinely one of the PS3’s best titles, and we hope you’ll think so too when you play it.
It arrives in the West on PS3 on March 12th.

Anno Series Coming To The iPhone In March

It's Difficult To Show Immersion In MGS Peace Walker Videos Says Kojima

Metal Gear Solid Peacewalker Metal Gear Solid Peacewalker Metal Gear Solid Peacewalker

Hideo Kojima has commented on the difficulty of showing just how immersive Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker is through videos alone:
“It’s difficult to show the interest and freshness of Peace Walker through video. Cameron’s Avatar was a huge hit because of the 3D video. That can’t be communicated through text and a trailer. It’s something you won’t understand unless you experience it for yourself in the theater.”
It's due to release on PSP on May 28th.

Coop Confirmed For Wii Version Of Prince Of Persia: Forgotten Sands

Ubisoft has confirmed a coop mode for the Wii version of Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands. There is no confirmation of this mode in other platforms, but neither has it been denied, so who knows at this time.

It could be awesome if they did it for all versions… just as long as they don’t do it Fable II style.

IronMonkey Bought by EA?

No official confirmation as to date, but rumours on the web state that EA has bought the Melbourne iPhone game studio IronMonkey. EA has previously outsourced some of its most important franchises, like The Sims 3, Need for Speed franchise, and Mirror’s Edge to the studio for iPhone porting.

All have done well in sales, with the last one momentarily on hold, which would make sense to this new acquisition by EA.

Crackdown 2 Developers Have Eyes On Natal

Ruffian, developer of Crackdown 2 has said that it is considering using Project Natal for a mini-game, perhaps in a future instalment of Crackdown. Ruffian producer James Cope said:
"I think Natal as an experience is great because it's opening up a kind of social gaming thing and there's a good place for that. I don't think that fits with what makes Crackdown, Crackdown right now."

"But that's not to say it doesn't fit in with what we want to do with it in the future... we have an opportunity to look at Natal... Because Crackdown is a bit of a non-sensical world and it's about mini-games and having fun within that, we can look at building mini-games that make sense for Natal into the Crackdown universe."
Crackdown 2 is said to be releasing in June, but that's not yet official.

New Reports Lay Out Future Of UK Gaming Industry

The National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts, (NESTA) have published two reports today which examine and detail the level type of support UK video games developers need in order for them to remain leaders in the global gaming market.

Playing the Game is the first report which gives insights into the practical support that can be implemented to foster development and proficiency within young or struggling companies. The second, The Money Game looks at the finance side of things and what actions the industry should take if it does not receive the tax breaks it sorely needs. It gives logistics for directions that companies can take but it also issues a calling for policy makers to take responsibility for protecting an absolutely crucial sector of the UK’s economy.

Both reports are being discussed at an event in London today (Thurs 25th) with Ed Vaizey, MP, Shadow Culture Minister and key individuals from the video games sector. Jonathan Kestenbaum, NESTA’s Chief Executive, says:
“Through a blend of robust evidence and practical research we’ve worked with the sector to devise strategies that ensure the UK remains at the forefront of global video games development.”
Ed Vaizey MP had the following to say on the matter:
“The video games sector has a key role to play in the 21st century economy. Understanding how to convert creative talent into business success is essential if we are to realise the full potential of video games and the wider creative industries. I welcome this useful report and the insights it offers into how to do this.”
You can download the reports yourself on NESTA’s website.

Super Meat Boy Confirmed For Xbox 360

The Indie title is a version from a flash game called Meat Boy, and it is a classic 90’s inspired 2D platformer. It had been confirmed for both PC and Wiiware some time ago, but now it will also be available through Xbox Live Arcade later this year. It has also been nominated for this year’s IGF (Independent Game Festival) best game as well as for audio excellence.

For what it seems, the Xbox Live Arcade version might get it first due to “contractual conditions”. Oh, if you haven’t guessed it yet, the main character is a piece of meat.

Final Fantasy 1 And 2 Arrive In App Store

Two titles from the one of the pillars of Role Play Gaming, Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II are now available for iPhone and iPod Touch gaming.

The titles which were originally released on the NES in the 80’s have undergone a little graphical tweaking and adjusting for the touch screen of the iPhone and iPod touch.

Both games retail at £5.49, a fair enough price considering the longevity of the titles. Grab Final Fantasy here, and its sequel here. Watch the latest trailer, here.
