Kinect Does Not Recognise Sign Language

Perhaps unsurprisingly, a Microsoft spokesperson has confirmed that Kinect cannot read sign language after all.
"Microsoft files lots of patent applications to protect our intellectual property… not all of which are brought to market right away. Kinect that is shipping this holiday will not support sign language."
Kotaku goes on to claim that sources have suggested a lower-resolution camera is to blame, which was built into the hardware in order to keep the cost down.

What Microsoft’s comments do suggest is that these kind of features are no doubt planned for Kinect’s future, and that the company is most likely expecting to launch successive Kinect hardware with subsequent console generations.
