SOCOM: Special Forces Delayed

Zipper Interactive have announced through the SOCOM website that latest iteration SOCOM: Special Forces (aka SOCOM 4) has been delayed until an unspecified date in 2011. In a statement senior community manager Jeremy Dunham said:
“While we’re certainly aware that you’ve been looking forward to playing SOCOM 4 this year, we don’t want to take any shortcuts. Instead, we want to deliver the best and most immersive SOCOM game we possibly can and we’re going to use our extra time to do just that.”
This could, however come as a blow to the launch of Sony’s Move hardware. SOCOM 4 was due to be one of the big launch window titles, and a title sure to interest core gamers in juxtaposition to all of the mini-game compilations such as Sports Champions or Start the Party. Whether this will impact Move’s initial uptake remains to be seen.

No reason was given for the delay, although it’s likely SOCOM 4 has moved to avoid similarly-themed military shooters such as Call of Duty: Black Ops and Medal of Honor. Ubisoft’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldiers has been delayed until 2011 for that very reason.
