Nintendo’s Sales Continue To Diminish

Nintendo has shown big drops in sales figures for the financial quarter ending June 30th 2010.

Sales were down from 253.5 billion yen in the 2009 to 188.6 billion this year; a drop of just over 25 percent.

Wii hardware sales were up 36.6 percent however, with 3.04 million sales compared to 2.23 million in the first quarter of 2009.

On the other hand, DS hardware sold 3.15 million units, down 44.7 percent from their 5.7 million sales in the same period last year.

The strong Yen is largely to blame for their lower income, although the slowing sales of DS hardware is likely to be contributory. Nonetheless, with the 3DS poised to launch this year or next (?) it won’t be long before their profits spike again, we suspect.
