Nintendo Happy With Super Mario Galaxy 2

May was a bad month for video games in general, with only Red Dead Redemption making it a good month with over 1 million units sold. Despite the 2nd position, Super Mario Galaxy 2 has sold just over half a million units which is probably less than what Nintendo had originally anticipated (the original went over a million units in its first month). No worries, says US sales and marketing Vice-President Cammie Dunaway:
“These May results show that consumers are really responding to the value proposition of our new Wii configuration that now includes Wii Sports Resort and a Wii MotionPlus accessory. May also saw the launch of two great games: Super Mario Galaxy 2 for Wii and Picross 3D for Nintendo DS. They preface the steady drumbeat of big games for the second half of 2010 we announced at the E3 Expo that will keep fans engaged and having fun.”
Dunaway seems optimistic, though makes no remark on the Mario Galaxy 2 results. Truth is that if we follow the Wii's biggest hits, they have been games that sell continuously throughout the months, so we will presumably see Mario Galaxy 2 on the top 10 list for yet some more time. After all, it is a great game.
