Crackdown 2 has topped the UK all format video games chart in its first week on sale. The sequel to 2007’s surprise hit has been relatively warmly-received with a Metacritic average of 71%, although reviewers have been critical of the similarities to its predecessor.
Developer Ruffian Games formed in 2008, and its two studio heads previously worked at Realtime Worlds, who were previously the developers of Crackdown, before moving on to in-house projects including recent release APB. The original Crackdown was the launch platform for the Halo 3 BETA but itself turned out to be something of a surprise hit (and arguably the game that brought Achievements to the fore).
Without the ‘safety net’ of Halo affiliation and given that Crackdown 2 is Ruffian Games’ first development, its initial chart success must be great news for the start-up developer. Well done to them. Top ten below:
