Blur's Poor Sales Costs In Detail

Gamasutra has revealed that Activision new racing IP Blur has only mustered sales of 31,000 units within 5 days of release to the market. This together with other games that have performed less than expected sales include Split/Second (selling 86,000 units) and Alan Wake (selling 145,000 units).

Activision had said of the title prior to release that “from a business perspective, we are targeting Blur to do for racing what Call of Duty did for shooters”. Those current sales numbers won’t be supporting that claim any time soon.

This together with a rumoured rift between Activision and games retailer Game meaning that the game received poor promotional support in their stores which may have also contributed to the game’s initial poor sales. Still, could be a late starter.
