“Sony Needs The PSP2” Says Ex-Sony Executive

14 year veteran ex Sony executive David Reeves (now COO of Capcom Europe) has commented that Sony needs to release a PSP2 to compete with the upcoming 3DS. Nintendo won the handheld war with the DS and all its iterations, plus the PSPGo hasn't helped raise Sony's share of the market.
"It's an exciting time and you could possibly have two handhelds coming out within months or a year of each other."

"Sony tried to make the transition with PSPgo, I think that changed some consumers attitudes, but they need to come back with something on PSP pretty quickly to stay in the game because Nintendo are shit hot at getting these things right. And they always get these things right. It was hard and it was very, very expensive. Now they're offering ten games and they have to try and revive it."
Despite the popularity of the DS, the PSP has always had their share of the market and games, but it is true that Sony should try give gamers a more unique experience instead of a simple “Playstation Portable”. An announcement was rumoured for this E3 but it just didn't come, and, seeing the new 3DS capabilities and game line-up, Sony will have to respond if they still want to compete with a market that has been always Nintendo territory.
