Miyamoto Discusses Wii Online Changes

Although Shigeru Miyamoto has recently admitted that the company may be a little slow on the uptake of their online model he has also said that the company may at some stage charge for using the Wii's online features. He had this to say when he spoke with Edge magazine recently:
“We are desperate to realise the core business structure."

“Do we need to demand customers pay monthly fees to enjoy online activities? Or give an online subscription that is free of charge, but then offer something extra for people that pay, so that they get some extra value? With these core business strategies I think we are less active than we should be.”
Given that Sony are already providing a premium members service for PlayStation Network I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo follow suit. They may be in the business of making games but they are also there to make money and any viable business ideas will always be considered by companies wanting to turn a profit. Plus, the content may be worth paying for after all (who'd have thought that?)
