BioWare Staff Say Final Fantasy XIII Isn't An RPG

The writing director for BioWare's Star Wars: The Old Republic franchise, Daniel Erickson, has said that in his opinion Final Fantasy XIII is not and RPG. When talking with website Strategy Informer he had this to say:
"You can put a 'J' in front of it, but it's not an RPG," he stated bluntly. "You don't make any choices, you don't create a character, you don't live your character."

"I don't know what those are - adventure games maybe? But they're not RPG's."
Agree to disagree but although I can understand the point of view of someone who typically works on Western RPGs it could also be argued that FFXIII meets the criteria for what an old-fashioned RPG should offer mixed with some new experimental ideas. I get the impression Mr. Erickson doesn't like the latest iteration but in the same respect not every RPG has to allow you to design your character to be an RPG. Even games such as Resident Evil and Parasite Eve could be classified as such because you are controlling a character and playing through a story. Still, good to here another voice on the matter.

(Think he makes a good point - Ed)
