Icelandic Volcano Could Affect Game Release Schedules

Although major UK games publishers have reassured consumers and the gaming press that they will not miss their release schedules later this month for their upcoming titles there appears to be some ambiguity in the air regarding the situation with the recent eruption of the Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajokull (a word you don’t commonly hear used in the English language). A spokesman for Nintendo commented:
“Wario Ware DIY will be released in the UK on April 30th. The majority of our distribution across Europe is achieved via road and not air. Therefore we do not expect any impact on software availability in the short.”
EA also added their own comments regarding releasing their World Cup-themed Fifa title:
"The EA teams have worked hard to make sure game reaches consumers on time".
However, operations director of Creative Distribution Damien White said that:
“The eruption has caused some delays on incoming and outgoing shipments. The positive is that every business in the trade is in the same boat so you get a certain amount of understanding from the customers.”
Seems like a mixed bag and depends on which supplier companies are using as to whether they will get scheduled stock or not. Hopefully flying and shipping schedules are returned to normal soon.
