In a recent talk with the French Official Playstation magazine the director of God of War III, Stig Asmussen discussed the potential implications of the game’s ending. He had this to say on the matter:
"At the end of the game, if we pay attention to the sound, we hear the breath of Kratos which is finally stopped."The game certainly is open-ended and I would not be surprised if it was done this way so more God of War games can be made in the future. I’d hope so as GOW III gave lots of brutal pleasure.
"Meanwhile, we also hear a laugh, a laugh of being relieved. To be honest, I don't know. It's an ending with an opening - I don't know if Athena will take him away, or someone else will, whether or not he is still alive."
