Sony has announced that the new firmware update for the PS3 will deny users the ability to install other operating systems on the device.
In a statement released by the company, PS3 firmware 3.2.1 update, which will arrive April 1st, will remove the 'Install other OS' option.
It is only the older models of the PS3 (the non slim ones) that this update is aimed at as the new model includes the firmware. Whilst Sony maintains that the update is necessary for improving the security of the console, other industry figures believe Sony is protecting itself.
The press release advised users who are running on another OS to back up any data which is stored on the HD as they will not be able to access it post installation.
