Each year Koei release the same formula of button mashing mayhem that is a Warriors game. The Dynasty Warrior titles have been going since the days of the original PlayStation and the formula hasn’t evolved that much since then, no matter which version of the game you play, you’ll always be fighting through several bland levels, blistering your fingers on the attack buttons and committing genocide on ancient china. Reviews are never kind to the Warriors games, but they have a large fan base as the game play, albeit repetitive, can be fun.
The PSP however, released a version of Dynasty Warriors which is more akin to Dragon Ball Z then a traditional Dynasty Warriors title. Sure, it’s the same formula, but this time round you can power up and literally fly around levels, fighting gigantic bosses and levelling your character over a series of areas.
The game has been ported to the Xbox 360 and PS3 and comes out tomorrow. Something that is fresh with this version however is online multiplayer, a feature that Koei has never capitalised on before, usually confining players to split screen.
Later on in the year Koei are branching out with a Warriors Title set against the background of Troy and even one based on the manga “Fist of the North Star” which we’ll update you about nearer the time.
