Japanese Hardware Sales Week Ending August 23rd
Wanna see what happens when you announced a price cut and new hardware SKU? Check out Sony's horrendous PS3 sales following the announcement of the new PS3 Slim, ouch... PSP overtook Wii sales though:

Dragon Quest IX Sales Start To Slow Down
Looks like Dragon Quest IX's crazy sales may be slowing down as the DS title sold less than 100,000 units for the week since its July launch. The last week of sales for the week ending August 23rd recorded only 79,000 unit sales compared to the week before at 127,000.

New Final Fantasy XIII Screenshots
Square Enix has released a few new screenshots of Final Fantasy XIII showing new characters Lieutenant Colonel Jihl Nabaat of the Holy Army and Yaag Rosch which you can checkout above. It's due in Japan this Winter and in the West in Spring on Xbox 360 and PS3.

EA's Rich Hilleman Expects PS3.5 Before PS4

First Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars PSP Screenshots Look Great

NCsoft Announces Aion: Tower Of Eternity BETA Details
NCsoft has announced that its open BETA test for Aion: Tower Of Eternity will take place between September 6th-13th. Official details below:
Within the next four weeks, NCsoft will treat European and North American gamers to two opportunities to jump into the world of Aion and explore Atreia as Asmodian or Elyos characters ahead of its release in Europe on 25nd September and North America 22th September. Aion’s Open Beta Test featuring version 1.5 will take place 6-13th September and will include numerous Western enhancements, including improvements to Aion’s innovative character customisation with a host of Western styles, as well as new zones, instances, skills, quests and continued game balancing and improvements. Open Beta will retain a level cap for both Elyos and Asmodians characters at 30 allowing players to focus on getting to the same level so they can explore the lands of Atreia together, as well as the Abyss.
Players who have pre-ordered Aion will be treated to a Pre-Select and a two-day Headstart period giving them the opportunity to explore, organise and progress through the game prior to the official launch. Pre-Select will take place on 18th September, while Aion’s Headstart will begin 20th September. Players can still participate in the Aion’s Pre-Select and Headstart programs by pre-ordering the game through several participating online and brick-and-mortar retailers.

Cage Defends Nightclub Striptease Scene In Heavy Rain
Nothing like a bit of controversy to get the hype going for your title. Quantic Dream's David Cage has defended the striptease scene in Heavy Rain where you get dolled up and perform a striptease on a nightclub owner to lure him away from the club out the back to pull a gun on him:

“It was received in a very interesting way. I think with this game we go from discovery to discovery. We had a couple of people who felt uncomfortable watching the scene, which is perfect because this is exactly what we wanted."

You need to go through different emotions, and showing this scene in particular was for us a test to see if we can make people feel like Madison, having to get naked to do a striptease in front of this ugly guy, and obviously it worked because people felt very uncomfortable."

Sony To Handle PAL Distribution Of DiRT 2
Codemasters has confirmed Sony will be handling distribution of Colin McRae: DiRT 2 in all PAL territories except Spain, Australia and New Zealand. This doesn't mean Sony will be publishing the title, merely handling distribution. It's due to release in PAL territories on September 10th.

Microsoft Has No Plans For A Slimline Xbox 360
Xbox 360 production boss Aaron Greenberg has said Microsoft has no plans for a Slim Xbox 360:

Microsoft Hasn't Decided On Facebook And Twitter Access
Microsoft has stated it is still finalising plans for Facebook and Twitter integration for the Xbox 360 and that previous notions of it being for Xbox Live Gold Members aren't confirmed. Microsoft did previously stated:
“Xbox Live Gold Membership will be required for Twitter and Facebook when they are available."So what they said wasn't technically what they meant then.
