EA To Reduce Number Of Game Releases

John Riccitiello has stated that a EA will reduce software production by 20% in the next fiscal year. This roughly translates into ‘only’ 40 games being released in future as opposed to 50. He then went on to state that this number could be reduced even further:
"Thirty (titles) wouldn't shock me at some point in the future."
This is purportedly in an effort to focus on more quality games however this production shift has come after a recently large number of lay offs from EA (around 1,500). These lay offs are likely to be at least partially a result of EA’s recent large acquisition of Playfish, a social gaming company.
