Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has generated $550 million (£327 million) during the five days of its release making it the highest grossing entertainment launch ever beating any game, movie or book release.
For some further perspective, the first five days of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince saw a revenue of $394 million (£234 million) and Grand Theft Auto IV grossed $500 million (£397 million).
Consideration must be taken into account of the difference in prices per unit for computer games compared to items like books however.
The game also broke another record with Xbox Live seeing 2.2 million users online on the 10th of November playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
