EA CEO John Riccitiello has commented Sony's motion control idea is not such a leap of faith as Microsoft's Project Natal. Riccitiello commented EA has been aware of Sony's motion tech for sometime and believes it's more instantly accessible:

“It's a great bridge technology, that provides users with an brand new experience but one that doesn’t require quite the leap of faith that Natal does.”
“It’s certainly very compelling for a number of game concepts I’ve got in my mind and my teams are working on."
“I think the challenges around it is that there’s a lot to be worked out – it’s not something consumers have interacted with before.”

It's gonna be sweet
They just gonna piss all over Nintendo now
This and Project Natal on Xbox 360 will take the industry back from Nintendo
He's right like, it'll be a lot easier to develop games for this than Natal
I love this new direction... didn't think they'd go with it
Not as flexible as Microsoft's tho...
Yeah, it's shame they're still tied to a peripheral
This isn't going to take the industry back from Nintendo at all. Think about it - it's playing right into Nintendo's hands. They shifted the focus to this technology, and they will by this point undoubtedly have more experience with this kind of tech.
I like to think of Nintendo as Emperor Palpatine (although much more fun) - everything is going exactly as he has forseen. :D
Yeah but it'll take people who want serious motion control games away from the Wii
It's not gonna bring the girls and kids in I think... although I see potential for Project Natal to do that
Natal has a lot of limitations and like Sony said, some games needs buttons like FPSs.
Sony's new hardware is nothing new. I think they were in panic after finding out what Nintendo and Microsoft were up to. It is just a prototype for sony. While the other two companys have it already made and in hand. Plus Sony's 'Prototype' is just the wii motion plus + the software that comes with most logitech web cameras today, that snap things like glasses and hats to your face. Sorry Sony, you should spend more of your research money on bringing down the price of your system instead... that would make it more interesting. Project Natal is the real inovation here.
I agree
There is no need to add a button for Project Natal. Because Microsoft is trying to make a leap and allow for new types of games to be made and explored. If you want a FPS... I think you will want to use a controller or a mouse anyways. I think it is time for some of you to think about other possiblities for interactivity in games besides always FPS guys.
Nice mis-quote/mis-arrangement of the article to make it support how you described his words. From the article:
" Natal looks like a breakthrough idea – like any breakthrough idea, you never know how large an audience it's going to realize. But it's certainly very compelling for a number of game concepts I've got in my mind and my teams are working on. And I find it very compelling. I think the challenges around it is that there's a lot to be worked out – it's not something consumers have interacted with before," he commented
Natal has so many more features, it is by far a better product. I know it might be a lot for innovationally challenged EA to deal with at once. But for companies with some actual ideas, it offers far more. Voice and facial recognition with motion sensing could work wonders for RPGs. Sony's controller would work well with just the physical part, but total interaction needs all of it. A lot of people don't think it will work, but all of the tech has been around and in use for years. MS is just joining it into one product. Most of the features can be seen in these 3DV videos. 3DV was bought by MS earlier this year. Even though they say they developed their camera on their own.

Keep in mind posters that Sony never said they wanted to compete with Nintendo with this...they instead want to deliver motion control to core gamers, which is something Nintendo is not doing. Microsoft I'm guessing is going for a middle ground, i.e. a little of each. I agree that it is more instantly accessible too, if you think about the recognition necessary for Natal to work, Sony has them beat (although with the "disadvantage" as some say of requiring a peripheral). Though if you think about how motion capture works, there must still be a reason that people must wear suits with all of those light balls on them (similar to the orb on the end of Sony's dildos) even with all the high tech involved. This just adds to the argument that Microsoft is going about it in a much more difficult manner...
Come on people. Microsoft just abandoned the people who already bought a Live Vision cam. Natal is just going to make the vision absolute. Sony's motion is more precise than Wii motion plus. Read the Kotaku article about Natal and ps3 motion impressions. With just a patch release from Bethesda, you could use ps3 motion in Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion.Besides you wont need to throw out your PS eye to use the tech.
They didn't abandon the people that bought a camera for the xbox 360. You bought the camera to chat with your friends and maybe to play a game or two... Project Natal is so much more... plus I'm sure you waisted your 49$ on worse things in your life. Maybe your mad that you have no friends to chat with?? So stop crying.. the live vision was basically just to chat with your friends. Project Natal is so much more...
The person who posted about the orbs is not up on current technology. Some companies have moved on.

Natal isn't very exciting is just Playstation Eye with depth. I like Sony's better because its in between Natal and the Wii. It has controls, which is needed to play games obviously, and it has the picture stuff with Playstation Eye. Did you see the family in the Natal ad trying to race without a wheel/controls, lol.
You know nothing Anonymous... you can even type properly.
Microsoft Xbox 360 Natal first play at E3
Microsoft upped the stakes on Nintendo and Sony with their new Natal motion-sensing hands-free control system for the Xbox 360. Now T3's Rob Temple has had the chance to put the new gaming sensation through it's paces. Find out what he made of it.
After all the launch hype and furore, T3 can confirm Microsoft's Project Natal for the Xbox 360 has changed gaming for ever.
We can say this confidently because we just received a first hands-on with the new motion controller system in a very private room at E3 in Los Angeles, courtesy of creative director Kudo Tsunoda.
After Kudo had talked us through his creation and showing us the ropes he let us literally jump into the gaming space and get stuck in. And we have to say this is mind-blowing stuff.
Natal created an accurate avatar of us in milliseconds. Kudo said: "We wanted to give users full control of their avatar in a one-to-one 3D space, with you as a gamer in a virtual world. There's no controller in the world that can do this."
The game we started with involved using your whole body to knock down boxes with big red balls. Not the most in-depth game, but as a demo it demonstrated just how scarily one-to-one the gameplay is. There's no time lag and your avatar, complete with flared jeans and love handles (if you're me) matches you exactly as you flail around the room like a headless chicken. It's properly physical, more so than anything seen on the Wii, so make sure you don't have a heart condition and have a big, antique-less living room.
Natal passes the real test
The game was impressive, but when Kudo loaded up Burnout Paradise - the game he first tested Project Natal with - the innovation really hit home.
Step forward, put your foot on the invisible pedal, hold your hands out to form a steering wheel and drive. The accuracy of the drive and turning has to be played to be believed. No calibartion is necessary, no time lag is apparent and it is truly a joy to play.
This game was just a working demo and won't be a Project Natal staple, but it demonstrated that driving and first person shooters are about to enter an unreal (and at the same time very real) dimension.
Sadly after five swift but thrilling minutes our time in the play room was over and the future of gaming had been changed, for the better, permanently. Scary.
